Temperance Movement

The Temperance Movement dates back to the early 1800's when groups of people began speaking out about the consumption of alcohol and criticising alcohol intoxication.

In 1826 the American Temperance Society was formed and within 12 years it claimed to have over one million members.

Temperance society's were also forming in England about the same time while society's in New Zealand and Australia began not long after in the 1830's.
